Clay Catcher tray for a Shimpo Potter’s Wheel

One of my favourite tools is a Giffin Grip I was  able to turn pots using the traditional way by centring the clay pot on my wheel then securing the pot with three pieces of clay. One of my health conditions sometimes affect my hands so using the traditional way made it difficult.
I decided to try out the Giffin Grip this is now my favourite tool as it enables me to continue enjoying my hobby when I feel well enough. It was very easy to assemble all I have to do now is push the Giffin Grip onto the wheel head I then install  the sliders or extension bar.
I recommend going to the product website to watch the videos to learn more about this amazing tool http://www.giffingrip.com/

I use a small  Shimpo potters wheel model RK10 this has a type of traction drive system with a cable system foot pedal to control the wheel speed   the waste  tray is very compact and perfect for catching clay and waste water.
There are many Potters wheels which come with compact design waste trays but when you add a Griffin Grip you need a  tray extender my  was very easy to make and it catches all the clay trimmings. My new tray extender sits on top of my existing Shimpo’s waste tray the trimmings go down into my existing Shimpo tray as there is a large slot in the tray extender catcher.
To make the clay extender catcher you need a plastic storage box, and some strong tape, silicon hosepipe & semi rigid flexible PVC plastic
